When the Community Comes Together

This is what can happen when a community truly cares about making sure everyone has a place.

For so many children with disabilities, participation often comes with an explanation. We explain what they need, what they can do, why an accommodation matters, or why they deserve the opportunity to be included in the first place. But on this field, Yara doesn't have to explain her worth or prove that she belongs. She puts on her uniform, joins her team, hears people cheer for her, and gets to experience something every child deserves: the feeling of being wanted and valued exactly as she is.

And as a parent, there is something incredibly powerful about watching that happen.

For those few hours, we aren't advocating, figuring out accommodations, or trying to make a space work for our child. We get to simply be parents watching our kids play baseball. We get to cheer, feel proud, laugh with other families and be part of a community that understands our lives without needing a long explanation.

It reminds us that we aren't alone, and that parents and caregivers deserve belonging, joy and community too.

None of this happens by accident. It happens because families defy the status quo, volunteers give their time, coaches show up season after season, and the community decides that children like ours matter enough to create spaces where they are not simply included, but where they truly belong.
